Inspired by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , guess what you think your car/bike it’s worth, look it up on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (or equivalent) and see how close you were. We are doing the Private Sale price. I’ll go first...
EL MOOSE!! (2005 XC90 2.5T)
The Good:
It’s in great shape outside/inside and mechanically perfect (because duh, it’s me). Just did a FULL service last month, brand new tires and fresh F/R brakes. 4300K xenon upgrade and yellow fog lights/high beams Because Group B.
The bad:
Headliner is starting the get bad in spots and it has 148K on the ticker. Needs a good clay, polish, and wax. Inside needs a good detail job.
My guess: $5,200 Bob.
Result:
Valiendo chiches de ardilla! Off by $1,200.
EL ZAPATITO (2005 BMW Z4 2.5)
The Good:
Also in great shape outside. Everything works. Sport wheels. Only 121k on the ticker which isn’t too bad on a 05. The design aged very good. Sport wheels and awesome color. Cold air intake and fresh Continental run-flat tires.
The Bad:
It’s a BMW, so it leaks oil (front seals and rear main). Cruise Control doesn’t work. Some relatively inexpensive interior trim is broken (a handle, cup holders). Also needs a good detail inside and out. Needs roundel in the back. Needs headlight restoration. Base model and it shows. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . zzzzzzz
My guess: $4,800 Bob.
Result:
Note to self, don’t play the Price is Right and fucking wash them! Need to stop being lazy and clean them good.

99 T4R SR5 2WD.
Good: Very straight body. Only one door ding and a few scratches. Only paint issue is the rock chips on the front edge of the hood. Interior is very clean and completely factory.
Bad: Keyless entry doesn’t work (yes I changed the battery in the remote). Leaks a little. It’s 2WD.
I’m guessing about 3 grand because no rust.

I’m out of luck on this one. Everything I have is too old to score on KBB or Edmunds, and even Hagerty isn’t that useful.

This is a good (if possibly very depressing) game.
‘08 E90 M3, manual, loaded, just over 90k miles
Good: everything works, runs great, 1 of just over 3000 with an manual in North America
Bad: daily driver wear (rock chips, some leather wear, one small door ding on one side, a couple wheels with some rash)
My guess: $28k
KBB: $22,927
Geez... good thing I’m not looking to sell any time soon and would be happy to keep this one in the stable for the long haul!

09 SV650 ABS
good: GSX-R suspension front and rear, frame sliders, HIDs
bad: its been down one or twice, styling and mods arent to everyones taste.
60K km
my guess: $4500
KBB: $4250 + 165 for 6speed trans (? ookkay...) + 65 for full fairing + 30% of all other mods done to the bike (about 2K worth of mods...so 600$ = 5080
00 SV650S
good: clean, run strong, has lower body panels
bad: couple of scratches, missing passenger grab rail
my guess: $2500
KBB: 1450 + 165 for full fairings = 1615
dam.

1984 Porsche 944 base -
Good - Drives well, shifts nicely, and clutch has life left - recent maintenance includes timing belt, and rear shocks and springs.
“It’s Expected cause it’s a 30 year old car” - AC has fixable problems, drivers side seat has a hole on the bolster, exact mileage unknown because the old odometer stopped working and a new one was put in. It’s had a decent respray at some point in its life.
The Bad - Much of the interior was swapped for black seats and carpet, but the original cracked brown dash remains. Needs some other little stuff, which I’m working on fixing.
It’s value? My guess is $2,200 because that’s what I paid in the last month; haggerty says Fair is $3,600, which surprised me a little.

94 Honda Prelude Si. Auto 240K on the clock.
Pro: Power-everything still works, (except cruise) interior is actually not bad, could use some floormats.
Cons: Digital dash needs replacing, needs paint, no radio, no A/C.
Going to guess ~$2000.00
Survey says... $951.00
Ouch.

My 2004 Mini Cooper
The Good: Mechanicaly solid, with a through refresh by the previous owner (my mechanic) before I bought it. It doesn’t leak, make funny noises, or have any strange behaviors. Car has every option that could be fitted to a 04 Cooper with the exception of fog lights and a CVT.
The Bad: Body is less than perfect with rock chips on the hood, a crease under the drivers rear tail light, and the trunk has previous damage which was poorly repaired (you don’t see it from a distance but when you look closely you can see that the panel is not straight). AC is also non functional. It also is nearing 140k miles.
The result:
I would personally put my car between good and very good an account of it’s mechanical condition. Very good is appraised at $3,289.

320 in silver. In very tip top shape :] All mounts, bushings good. brakes and tires good. Not a drop of oil, dry and running smooth as eggs :]
Only think bad is that it needs a good detail inside and out and the driver’s side middle seat is stuck forward.

Copper S go for about twice as much as a standard Cooper. KBB seems to have this completely wrong, or prices have tanked in the last 4 months.
TheTurbochargedSquirrel
> EL_ULY
08/22/2016 at 18:48 | 0 |
KBB seems rather low for them in my area. A good Cooper will usually set you back about $4,000 and a Cooper S will run you about $8k.

TheTurbochargedSquirrel

I am also noting in a quick craigslist dive that 1st gen Coopers and Cooper S are holding their value better than 2nd gen Cooper S (which can be found for about 6k). However 2nd gen Coopers seem to hold their value really well. Odd. Also as expected for a car like these automatics are worth significantly less than manuals.
EL_ULY

Odd indeed. More so on the transmission differences
TheTurbochargedSquirrel
> EL_ULY
08/22/2016 at 19:21 | 0 |
Well the CVT in the first generation was awful and prone to failure (don’t buy a first generation with the auto). The later generations aren’t as bad but are still not great transmissions. There is an enthusiast community which creates a demand for the manuals. Its the same as with Miatas where the fanbase doesn’t want the autos.

OMG I HAVE THE SAME THING
It’s in tip-top shape, besides the rusty stepbars (which we have yet to remove), weathered driver’s seat, and a sizable splotch of house paint on the fender. That happened when we parked in a garage once while on vacation, and came back seeing it, thinking that it was merely bird excrement. Then we realized what it really was when it wouldn’t wash off.

All mods will be tasteful but coming from a family with a history of rally I can’t guarantee that it won’t get dirty. Right now my only plans are strut tower reinforcement plates, a skid plate, a pair of driving lights, and some nice rims.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Freaking rare, JDM only first gen RX7, less than 2000 ever produced. Most powerful first gen RX-7, tuned by RE-Amemiya. Interior in good shape for a 31 year old car. 81000km o nthe clock only. A bunch a rare and expensive body panels by RE-Amemiya. 950kg car for 185hp. Rust free.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Not the original paint. Gas guzzler to a point that it’s borderline scary. It’s also a rotary so it might need a rebuild any day now :)
My estimate (private party sale in Japan): 12000$
KBB has no idea what that thing is.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It’s a Mini! 90000km on the clock. Recently repainted and some body work was done. Body now looks very clean. Interior is in good condition, but it sucks. Sucked when it was new, keep on sucking today. 42hp of pure awesomness. Again, no rust
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Interior is original but REALLY ugly. Carburetor needs tuning.
My estimate (private party sale in France): 5500$
KBB has no idea what that thing is.
